Temple History

The Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam, also known as the Ganesh Temple, is located in Flushing, Queens, New York. It was established by the Hindu Temple Society of North America, which was incorporated on January 26, 1970. The temple was built on the site of a former Russian Orthodox Church and was consecrated on July 4, 1977. This temple is significant as it was the first traditional Hindu temple in North America, constructed with granite stones imported from India.
